WEEKLY MINISTRY UPDATE FROM LINN

Ministry Update
Reverend Linn Possell
As some of you may know already from  attending service yesterday and possibly by watching the video on facebook, I shared with the congregation yesterday that I believe that my role at Hope Unites has come to an end.  I believe that we have together created an amazing community that is centered in respect and love for all life.  Hope Unites is about "creating the world in which we all want to live" and each one of us has taken part in helping that vision become a reality.  Hope Unites is ready to move into our next phase of growth and I believe that what I can do to help this process is to create the space for this growth to happen.  I believe that it is time for new leadership and want to create the space for you to find the person who will help you transition to your next phase of growth.

My role at Hope Unites was to help you all create a community that is welcoming to all people and centered in the divine.  It has also been my role to help each person at Hope Unites embrace and embody our vision.  I believe that my role is finished because you all do embrace and embody the vision of honoring the sacred in all of life and this is apparent in the way we welcome all people, how we help one another in need, how we make all of our decisions by consensus and how we celebrate each person's experience and expression of the Holy.  Now it will be the congregation of Hope Unites that will continue to teach and help everyone who comes into contact with our church, learn how to embrace and embody this vision.

As soon as the council and I decide what the time frame of this transition will be, I will let you all know.   Please feel free to speak with me if you have any questions or comments.

Grace and Peace to You

Top Reasons for Checking Out Hope Unites

Variety… A wide variety of music, expressions and names for the Holy in our lives and values that have integrity and purpose
No Apologies… You are what you are…and so are we…we like ourselves just fine.  You’ll find us a church where you can fit in, be nurtured and challenged to grow.
No Boxes… The UCC are ‘out of the box’ type people.  We were the first to take a stand against slavery, first to ordain an African American person; a woman; an openly gay person. We were the first mainline christian denomination to proclaim marriage is not a privilege only to heterosexuals, but a holy covenant between two individuals in a loving and committed relationship.
Spiritual Guidance…  It’s not about doctrines and dogma and creeds and lists of “Do’s and Don’ts”.  It’s about journeys and relationships with others and with God.  Spiritual Journeys can be like the exercise equipment we buy and leave under the bed.  Without coaches and workout partners, most of us don’t stick with it.

6 REASONS I LOVE MY CHURCH

I love my church because it is like The Wizard of Oz – it’s about having a heart and a brain. And courage!

What I love most about my church is that it’s a place where we feel free to “think out loud together”.

You know why I love my church? Because for one hour a week I get reminded that life is more than getting up and going to work, dealing with problems, and worrying about everything under the sun.

I love the United Church of Christ because we’re giraffes not turtles; we aren’t afraid to stick our necks out. We were the first Mainline Christian Denomination to ordain the first African-American in the 18th century, the first woman in the 19th century, and the first openly gay person in the 20th century. That helps me stick my neck out and take a risk every now and then.

I love my church because the sermons make me think about things I would probably normally not think about.

Why do I love Hope Unites?  Because it’s not about believing in Christ, it’s about following Jesus!
